NOTES ON COMING TO KROKA (First Day Specifics)
PLEASE READ THOROUGHLY!

welcome to Kroka

Dear Parent(s) and Students,

We are so excited to welcome you to Kroka! Below is a summary of what to expect when you arrive.

How do I get to Kroka? Here is a link to our website where you can get maps and directions. Please note that the Mapquest website does not give correct directions to Kroka.

What will happen when I arrive at Kroka?

1. Park your car! One of our staff members will help guide you (see below under "Where do I park?").

2. Check-in at the registration table in the farmhouse barn. (10:45 AM – 11:45 AM) (This will include a review of your paperwork, a lice check, and the opportunity to purchase or borrow any missing gear).

3. Bring your child, her/his gear, and your potluck food down to the student village.

4. Join us for the Opening Circle and Potluck Meal (promptly at 12:00 Noon) which will include all of the families from all the other programs that will begin on that day.

5. Attend the Parent Meeting (1:00 PM). Families will meet with their specific program group to learn about their child’s program and have time to ask questions.

6. Pick up your potluck dishes (they will have been washed for you!)

7. Goodbyes and departure!

What do I need to bring with me? In addition to your child and his or her gear from the packing list, we ask you to bring some prepared food dish. It should be the size that you would bring to any potluck gathering. Some ideas would include salad, pasta dish, potato dish, bread/crackers and cheese, local fresh fruit or vegetables, quiche and we always appreciate yummy nutritional desserts. Also, remember to bring plates and eating utensils for each of your family members.

What should my child wear for clothing on the first day? Note that students should come dressed in one set of clothes from their packing list.

Can I bring my pets? We do love them, however, please leave them at home.

Where do I park? Parking is either on the left hand side of a one way half circle driveway. Please be aware of the ENTER and EXIT signs. There will be parking attendants to direct you. Leave enough room for the car in front of you to get out. Or in our overflow parking lot to which you will be directed, if necessary. Please, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, should you park on the side of the road. Thank you!

What time should I plan to arrive?
Your program registration check-in begins at 10:45 AM and closes at 11:45 AM To help make the Program start run smoothly, we ask that families who live closer to Kroka to arrive nearer to the 10:45 AM time, as opposed to 11:45 AM This will allow those who live a little farther away more time to get here. We advise you to arrive no later than 11:15 AM, in order to take care of all of your responsibilities before the Opening Circle. If you arrive earlier than 10:45 AM, feel free to walk the land or visit the farm animals. Please know that the teachers and staff are busy preparing for your children’s arrival and we will attend to you once registration check-in begins at 10:45 A.M. Once you have completed the check-in process and brought your potluck dish and gear to your child’s campsite, you can visit with each other, walk around the Kroka Village, meet the farm animals or just relax and enjoy the view and the music.

What happens if I arrive late? If you arrive late, with your potluck, child, and gear in hand, follow the board walk and trail, through the field, down to the Kroka Village and join the festivities. The registration check-in table will reopen at 2 P.M. after the individual program meetings. Those who have arrived late will need to check in then.

What if I need assistance? For people who may need assistance, with advanced notice, we may be able to provide a horse drawn wagon ride down to the village. We apologize that access to the village is not yet wheelchair accessible.

Notes on retrieving your child at the close of the program:
When do I return to pick up my child? Programs end on Saturdays. You should plan to arrive promptly at 12:30 PM. After parking your car, please gather at the farmhouse and enjoy some lemonade while awaiting your child(ren). Note that there is NO potluck meal at the Saturday program closing. Once the children have come to greet us, we will then walk together down to the village for a presentation from the group. Please do not arrive late, as it is very disappointing for the children if their parents are not able to greet them. You should expect to depart around 2:00 PM.

If after reading these important notes you have any questions, please feel free to call, 603-835-9087, or email, office@kroka.org.

We look forward to your arrival!
