SEMESTER PROGRAMS
ABOUT THE TEACHERS

Over a dozen of the most respected craftspeople, local historians, outdoor guides, and experts from around New England and around the world will share their knowledge with students.

Chris and Ashirah Knapp are in their sixth year teaching at Kroka and this will be their second year with the semester program. Chris is a graduate of the Foson Folk School in Norway, and Ashirah has completed seven years of her schooling with master teacher Ray Reitze. Together, they spent five years of intensive study and teaching at Earthways School of Wilderness Living in central Maine, culminating in a three-and-a-half month northern winter journey during which time they lived off of subsistence hunting and trapping. Registered Maine Guides, Chris and Ashirah bring a wealth of knowledge and skill for living in the natural world. They are currently in the midst of building a log home by hand in Temple, Maine.

Misha Golfman co founded Kroka Expeditions in 1996, with his partner Lynne Boudreau. He graduated from Soviet National Outdoor Leadership School and earned degrees from Leningrad Politechnical and Pedagogical Universities, Plymouth State College and M.Ed. from Antioch, NE Graduate School. As a child he spent every summer expeditioning on long Russian waterways with his mother, while foraging and fishing. Misha has participated and led many expeditions including several in the Russian and Canadian Arctic. He has founded many initiatives, including Russian American Outdoor Educators Exchange, Adventures in Russia and Piermont Outdoor Program. Misha has been a guide for Mahoosuc Guide Service for 15 years and a public school and college teacher for 10 years. Misha lives in a handmade home in Putney, VT with Lynne, four boys and many animals.

Ray Reitze Jr. is the co-founder of Earthways School of Wilderness Living and a Master Maine Guide. As a young boy Ray was apprenticed to a Native American elder who lived in a wigwam on the back of the Reitze farm. From this special man whom Ray called Grandfather, Ray learned the physical and spiritual ways of native life. Ray has incredible skills in practical living on the land and the wisdom of the Earth radiates through him. An author of the book titled And We Shall Cast Rainbows Upon The Land, Ray teaches the philosophy of awareness and inner peace throughout the country. A teacher to Chris, Ashirah, and Misha, Ray will lead students in several projects and a philosophy class.
