Life on the River (May) After a month of
carving, pounding, reading, sanding, weaving, writing, and chopping
we pick up a new tool. It’s smooth, strong, and individually crafted—the
paddle. We step into a shining cedar canoe with paddles in hand and
suddenly the ancient travel routes open to us and we are free.
We fill our bellies with fiddleheads, Knotweed pie, and other
tasty gifts from the riverbank.
We study hydro power and water quality.
We learn geology from the top of Mt Ascutney.
We make fire with friction.
