LYNNE BOUDREAU and MISHA GOLFMAN are
professional guides, teachers and co-founders of Kroka Expeditions.
They enrich the school with their clear vision for young
people, 26 years of leading unique wilderness trips, innovative
national teaching styles and international teaching and
wilderness guiding credentials. This year, as always, their
sons Mathias (6), Danya (9) and Miron (16) will be adding
their expertise to many programs, while their oldest son,
Peter, will be preparing for law school. |

LISL HOFER was born and raised in a small
village in the Austrian Alps. As the daughter of a forester
and a teacher, she had many chances to develop her love
for nature. She became an avid skier and coach, and enjoyed
hiking, mountaineering and climbing in the Alps. In 1985,
Lisl moved to the United States. She taught at Kimberton
Waldorf School for 13 years. Lisl has two children, Stefan
and Katrin who have both taught at Kroka. Lisl joined Kroka
in August 2006 as one of our teachers and the Semester Program
Coordinator. |

THOMAS, MICHAEL and MATHIAS DAMMER: These
three Ecuadorian brothers joined the Kroka community in
2003 and things haven’t been the same! They grew up on
a farm near Quito, spending most of their lives in the
outdoors, working and exploring by horse or bicycle, climbing
in the mountains or paddling down rivers or on the ocean.
They bring a wealth of knowledge and experience from their
country, infusing Kroka with the wonderful spirit of their
culture, and their own contagious energy and enthusiasm.
The Dammer brothers are exceptional athletes and climbers
and are responsible for Kroka’s climbing program. In addition,
Thomas is taking more of a lead in our white water paddling
programs, Mathias in our school programs and Michael in
the semester program. Mathias, Thomas and Michael take
turns lead teaching the Ecuador Semester. This is their
seventh year with Kroka. |

LINDA FUERDERER is a new addition to
Kroka. Her contribution will be working as the Office Manager/
Administrator. Until the sale in 2007, she worked along
side her family in the family business, Jack’s True Value
Hardware in Keene, New Hampshire. While working in the family
business, she received a Bachelor’s Degree at Keene State
College. Here she deepened her passion for archaeology.
Linda has participated on many digs and regularly volunteers
with the New Hampshire SCRAP program (State Conservation
and Rescue Archaeology Program). She is a resident of Marlow
and sits on the conservation commission as well as ARLAC
(Ashuelot River Local Advisory Commission). |

TOM ROSENBERG was the first Kroka Alumni
to join our full time staff and is returning for his second
summer. Tom grew up in Portland, Maine and attended Kroka
camp for many years. Tom has been on many advanced programs,
including expeditions to Ecuador and Canada. He was a participant
in the 2006 Vermont Semester and returned as a teacher assistant
on the 2008 Vermont Semester. In addition to apprenticing
at Kroka for several summers, Tom has also apprenticed at
Mahoosuc Guide Service in Maine. |

HANS MAYER has been part of the Kroka
family for four years. He is an alumni of the 2006 Vermont
Semester Program. He formally joined the staff in the Spring
of 2008 after workng as a “junior” staff for two years during
the summer programs and for school trips. Hans is from Starksboro,
Vermont and spent his youth immersed in the natural world—tracking,
hunting, fishing, wilderness camping, organic farming—and
has a great reverence for nature and love of outdoor pursuits.
When he is not at Kroka, Hans works as a solar installer
and volunteers as a certified firefighter. |

SUEÑO LEBLOND grew up embraced
by the Earth’s natural wonders in small town Montana. Her
passion for the outdoors is matched by her commitment to
providing children with quality experiences that inspire
a sense of wonder for their world. She has a Masters in
Education from Antioch New England. When Sueño is not outside,
she is mussing about in colors and textures creating quilts,
felted bags and hand bound books. She is grateful that Kroka
has moved to her neighborhood so she could be a part of
such an amazing team. |

BARUCH SCHWADRON comes to Kroka to lead
the New Hampshire-Vermont Semester Program with a broad
array of knowledge from various traditions. Born in Louisiana,
MO, Baruch has lived in 26 different countries on 5 continents,
fueled by a passion to cultivate a more sustainable and
just planet. He has learned with shamanic healers around
the world, and co-founded For All Humanity, a non-profit
organization, rooted in connecting people through sustainable
service efforts. A passionate leader of many things from
canoeing to intercultural communication, archery to activism,
Baruch brings deep connectedness, peace and community to
all of his work. After teaching the semester, he will be
joining the summer staff. |

LILY FREY, an ’06 Vermont Semester Alumni
comes to Kroka from California, where she grew up on her
family’s Vineyard, living joyously on the land, helping
on the farm and playing music with her brothers. Before
coming to work at Kroka in the summer 2008, Lily completed
a year at Fosen Folk School in Northern Norway sailing Viking
ships and learning traditional Wilderness and folk crafts.
Lily shares with students her love of all living things,
and her talents of music and passion for farming. |

CHRIS KNAPP is returning for his tenth
year at Kroka. He spent many years as a student of Ray Reitze,
and as a teacher at Earthways School of Wilderness Living.
He has a wealth of wilderness knowledge and experience to
share. Chris and his wife Ashirah have been an integral
part of Kroka’s development, designing and creating curriculum,
as well as teaching the Vermont Semester in 2004, 2006 and
2008. Chris and Ashirah have recently started a family—Owen
is now 1½ years old!—as well as “Koviashuvik Local Living
School.” Based on their homestead in Temple Maine, Koviashuvik
teaches a blend of folk arts, wilderness crafts, permaculture,
and sustainable technologies. |

MARCELA RESTREPO joined the Kroka community
last year. After a long successful spring and summer, she
joined the 2008 NH-Ecuador Semester, as a lead teacher.
Marcela is from Colombia, but did most of her studies in
New Zealand where she graduated three years ago in Art and
Theatre. She now lives in Ecuador pursuing her passion of
blending together the magic of theatre and puppets with
the wilderness world. |

NICOLE MARCHAN joins us from Ecuador
as part of an ongoing teacher exchange between Kroka and
our sister school Nahual. Nicole is an accomplished climber
and a wilderness guide on the Galapagos Islands. She is
also an amazing yoga teacher. Her wellgrounded style, calming
and peaceful presence make her a valuable asset to Kroka’s
climbing team. |

CLARA KAZAROV is a new junior staff member
at Kroka this summer. She has been a part of Kroka for 5
years as a student and for the last three summers, as an
apprentice. Hailing from New Jersey and currently studying
fine arts at School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Clara
has balanced her somewhat urban lifestyle with summers at
Kroka. Enchanted by traditional crafts, teaching others
and new experiences she hopes to contribute and continue
her learning with the Kroka community this summer. |

JOHANNA GARDNER loves the outdoors. Canoeing,
camping, biking, and hiking are among her favorite activities.
Johanna grew up in Newfane, Vermont and resides in her childhood
home with her husband and three children. Along with her
husband, Bahman, she is a musician and member of BroadBand
that performs locally throughout Vermont. Johanna works
as a French teacher at the Putney Grammar School and has
been with Kroka for nine years. |

MARCEA MACINNIS is a native Vermonter.
Growing up immersed in nature, she developed an understanding
of the beauty, forms and cycles of nature. Marcea has pursued
to perfection the expressions of nature’s messages through
crafts, music and art. She is in her fifth year of study
and practice of medicinal plants. For Marcea, both Ecuador
and Saxtons River, Vermont are home. This is her fifth year
working at Kroka both as a summer and New Hampshire-Ecuador
Semester teacher. |

ROSS SCATCHARD is returning for his second
summer. While not at Kroka, he coaches cross-country skiing
at Saint Michaels College along with taking Education courses.
Ross is an expert mountain biker and an avid gardener (planning
and nurturing Kroka’s beautiful garden in 2008). He brings
with him his love for the natural world and his passion
for wilderness living skills. |
