New at Kroka Store This Season . . .
We are always looking for quality, responsibly made and
hard to find gear. Organic farm-grown t-shirts are a favorite
along side our expanded selection of Swedish hand made
axes and wool long underwear. This year you will find
several new small items at the store, including water
bottles and hats. One big item, worth mentioning is Swedish-made
rain gear. After several years of research and serious
Kroka field-testing we are now offering lightweight, rain
wear that will keep you 100% dry while allowing freedom
of movement to work outdoors. The set of bright orange
raincoat and bibs is available in sizes XS to large. Call
the office if you are interested. You will not find gear
like this at any store!
Directory of Local Accommodations
When bringing your child to camp at Kroka, why not consider
spending a week or just a few days in our beautiful area?
A list of local accommodations, including bed and breakfasts
and local lakeside cabins for rent are available at www.kroka.org.
We are also completing a directory of local hikes, paddles
and places to visit, while visiting Kroka.
KOVIASHUVIK
(in the Inuit language, “a time and place of joy
in the present moment”) Long-term Kroka staff Chris
and Ashirah Knapp have started a school of “local
living”, called Koviashuvik at their homestead in
Temple, Maine. Their new school is teaching workshops
for families, individuals and groups in the areas of homestead
living and traditional folk arts and crafts.
Chris and Ashirah will continue their work with Kroka
as guest teachers and we are excited to support this new
initiative and plan to work in close cooperation with
Koviashuvik. For information, please call Koviashuvik
(207) 778-0318.
