KROKA EXPEDITIONS GUIDE’S DIPLOMA AND GRADUATION REQUREMENTS

Kroka Expeditions Guide’s diploma will be awarded to students who have completed all graduation requirements and passed the guide’s test. The Guide’s diploma is the highest award a Kroka student can receive and signifies that a student is a well-versed in wilderness living and guiding. This diploma will be helpful in illustrating your accomplishments to teachers, potential employers and colleges. Self-motivated students can work over the course of several years towards fulfilling all the requirements listed below. For graduates wishing to earn academic credit through their Kroka diploma, Kroka Expeditions will be happy to contact your school on your behalf. I. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Rock-Climbing: Minimum of a one week climbing training program

2. White Water Paddling: Minimum of one week of each of the following training programs: canoeing, kayaking, rafting

3. Expedition: Minimum of one week of each of the following expeditions:
White Water Paddling Expedition; Backpacking, Mountaineering or Multielement Expedition; Sea Kayaking Expedition; Winter Expedition

4. Wilderness Living: Minimum one week of Wilderness Skills Training

5. Leadership: Minimum one week of leadership training. Minimum four weeks of Internship with at least two different head teachers.

II. AREA OF CONCENTRATION:

  • Minimum of a two week advanced skills course in chosen area of concentration
  • Minimum of a two week advanced expedition in the chosen area of concentration
    Areas of Concentration: White water paddling, Rock climbing, Wilderness living, Sea kayaking

    III. GUIDE’S TEST
    Students who have completed the requirements may take a Junior Guide’s exam – a three-hour oral and practical skills test.
    The areas covered by the exam are:

  • Map, Compass and area navigation
  • Fire
  • Cooking
  • Knots
  • Equipment Selection and Repair
  • Search and Rescue
  • First Aid
