Dear parents and friends,
This is the first of the weekly updates that you will receive
from the VT-Ecuador Semester participants. Please feel free
to give us feedback if you feel something can be added to
this weekly letter that students will mail during their journey.
See you all soon

It all began about 11/2 year ago when Misha and I walked across
the beautiful fields of a biodynamic farm in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
We were exchanging ideas about a second semester program at Kroka.
We decided it had to be different than the existing Vermont Semester.
Suddenly it became clear- why not create a semester that incorporated
traveling to Ecuador? The Dammer brothers had already brought so
much enthusiasm to Kroka since their arrival in 2003. Three-week
summer trips to Ecuador were already in place, so it seemed natural
to go one more step. The idea for a new semester was born. The brothers
opened their hearts to this new possibility and by the fall of 2006
Michael, Thomas and Marcea took on the responsibility of teaching
the semester. All fall we worked hard to create an exciting curriculum,
develop a marketing plan, and visit schools to promote the semester.
Then the brothers and Marcea left, traveling for awhile and finally
settling in Ecuador to prepare for the semester. Meanwhile, my job
was to find the students. This became difficult at times, yet steadily
the applications came in. In time, the group we are welcoming on
Sunday began to emerge. Ten young people have chosen to live a simple
life for the next four months, to learn and discover something new
every day in our non-traditional school setting. Ten families are
supporting these young people in their search for understanding
and meaning within this challenging world we live.
I am filled with gratitude towards all of you, dear parents that
you are entrusting your child to us. We will do our very best to
fulfill our commitment.
I can’t wait to see many of you on Sunday, August 26 at 11
am.
Love, Lisl

Last fall, Eric Del Rio organized a great fundraising event
where he raised $800 towards the tuition of Abdala, our Ecuadorian
student from Shiwacocha. Unfortunately, his visa was denied
but luckily he still will be joining us in Ecuador.
Thank you Eric for your amazing support……. |
